About Janette Levey

NJ, NY & Federal Employment Law

I’m Janette Levey, founder of Levey Law, LLC.

For more than 20 years, I’ve advised employers on how to navigate workforce issues before they escalate into litigation, regulatory action, or business-disrupting crises.

I am licensed to practice law in New Jersey and New York, and I advise employers nationwide on federal employment law issues, helping leadership teams understand risk, timing, and options long before exposure becomes unavoidable.

My work is grounded in a simple but often overlooked truth:
most workforce problems do not begin as legal emergencies — they begin as patterns, judgment calls, and unresolved tension.

I work with business owners, executives, and HR leaders who want to address workforce challenges before they harden into lawsuits, audits, or high-stakes disputes.

That means helping clients:

  • recognize risk earlier
  • think beyond intent and focus on systems and consistency
  • align leadership, HR, and decision-making
  • preserve options while they still exist

.

Author, speaker, contributor

I author my firm’s bi- weekly blog, sharing insights (in plain English) regarding the issues impacting employers today.

I regularly write and speak on emerging employment-law issues affecting employers, translating complex legal developments into practical, business-focused insight.

My work has appeared in publications including EEO Insight, Staffing Industry Review, @Law, and Chief Legal Officer. I am also a contributing author to the LexisNexis treatise Employment Contracts and Agreements: A Guide for Corporate Counsel (2024).

In addition, I contributed the chapter “Could Your Tried-and-True Hiring Practices Expose You to Employment Litigation?” to Hiring Greatness: How to Recruit Your Dream Team and Crush the Competition (John Wiley & Sons).

I have spoken and trained on topics including:

  • criminal background checks
  • joint employment
  • severance arrangements
  • pre-employment screening
  • and evolving workplace risk trends

I’ve also been a guest on multiple podcasts and webcasts discussing real-world workforce challenges and how they escalate — or can be prevented.
